On February 28, 2022, at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office, Tian Yulong, chief engineer and spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that 5G networks have covered all prefectures and cities and county towns and districts in China, as well as 87% of townships and towns, leading the world.

First, solidly promote the construction of 5G networks. More than 600,000 new 5G base stations will be built this year, and the total number of base stations will reach 2 million by the end of this year. The scale of infrastructure construction should be continuously expanded, and the layout should be optimized according to the needs of construction, and the network coverage for key areas such as enterprise factories and industrial parks should be strengthened. At the same time, the coverage depth of high-speed rail, transportation hubs, shopping malls and other densely populated areas will be improved. The second is to vigorously promote the innovative development of 5G applications. Continue to deeply implement the 5G application "sailing" action plan. Run the "Bloom Cup" 5G application competition, explore more new achievements and technologies, and promote the promotion. At the same time, it is necessary to take industry needs as the guide, further promote the demonstration of "5G + industrial Internet" application scenarios, carry out 5G + medical health, 5G + smart education pilots, and continue to deepen and expand to the fields of agriculture and cultural tourism. For personal applications, a number of new smart terminals and APP should be launched to further improve the 5G experience of users.
The third is to vigorously promote the iterative upgrading of 5G technology. Increase the research and development of key chips and core devices, and support the industry to actively participate in the formulation and docking of international standards. At the same time, we must continue to promote the research and development and testing of 5G enhancement technology, expand the integration ability with vertical industries, enrich 5G application products, and promote enterprises to launch more levels and more price points of 5G chips and other module products, to meet the differentiated, customized and personalized needs of different industries, different fields and the general public for 5G, so that 5G technology can truly develop rapidly through the scale of application.
